Every request starts with the original read: the software as it came out of the car or machine. That file is worth more than it seems. It is the base of the new file and the only clean way back.
The way back to stock
If a customer wants the car back to standard, for example when selling it or at the end of a lease, you write the original file back. "Un-tuning" a modified file does not work reliably. In the portal you can request the "Back to stock" option for this.
A clean base
A file that has already been modified, by us or by someone else, is not a good base for a new calibration. You do not know exactly what was changed. That is why we always ask for the unmodified read. If the software looks modified already, we tell you before we go any further.
How to keep the original safe
- Always make a full backup before you write anything
- Put the make, model, engine, ECU number and date in the file name
- Keep the file in two places, for example locally and online
- If you read on the bench, keep every file your tool creates
After a dealer update
If the dealer has updated the software, an old file usually no longer fits the new version. Read the car again and request a file based on the new read. Keep that new read as your original as well.
In the portal
When you upload the read through the portal, it is stored in your account with the request. So later you know exactly which file belongs to which original.
